Held at national public health conferences, such as NACCHO, ASTHO, and APHA, Public Health Leaders Forums are unique discussions amongst public health leaders around emerging public health issues. Through facilitation, participants engage in discussions on strategies that public health leaders can apply to everyday practice as advocates of healthy communities and people.

Managing Power & Influence: Stories from the Field
Memphis, TN
Held at the NACCHO 2010 Annual Meeting in Memphis, TN; this leadership forum provide an intimate and personal stories of cutting edge public health leaders Dr. Adewale Troutman, Director of Louisville Metro Department of Public Helath and Wellness, and Dr. Covia Stanley, South Carolina Region 6 District Health Director. Both of whom have significantly impacted their communities and have transformed the practice of public health.
Through the power of storytelling, this session presented success stories and important lessons learned of local public health leaders regarding managing power and influence that led to health systems change. Dr. Troutman and Dr. Stanley shared their personal stories of striving for health equity withing their communities, highlighting leadership comptencies of mobilizing, coordinating and direct braod collaborative action within complex public health systems, in addition to the neccessity of communication skills, collaborative leadership, and raising awareness of accountability.

The 1st Public Health Leaders Forum was held at the NACCHO 2009 Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. Entitled, Public Health Leaders Forum: The Role of Public Health in Health Reform, the session explored the role played by public health leadership in shaping the public health agenda for health reform. Discussion centered on the prevention agenda in the current health reform and the roles of public health leaders in advocacy, policy development, and systems change.
